Mother Seton said, "Faith lifts the staggering soul on one side; Hope supports it on the other; Experience says it must be and love says let it be."
The Mother Elizabeth Ann Seton Award celebrates individuals in our school community who mulate what it means to serve and support our mission. These people give selflessly of their time, talents and treasures. Their service to our school and students and their stand-out volunteerism is the reason for the recognition, but ultimately their support of Catholic education shows their devotion to Christ and His teachings.2024 Recipient: Mr. Charlie Vandehey
The following has been said about this year’s recipient:“A truly genuine Catholic Christian! Generous and inviting to all! Organized and determined and able to see the task done! Creative and knowledgeable, encouraging others to learn, explore and experience God in every aspect of whatever the adventure!”
"He is also a wealth of information when it comes to all things nature and animal science He has the best stories and always a smile to go along with them. I never saw him lose his cool with the kids and they all seem to love him. Thankful to him for being another great and influential male role model for our middle school kids!"
"I experienced his service to our school community first hand as I witnessed his dedication to creating a positive experience for our students on the Astoria field trip this year. He could be found organizing and directing the group as well as doing the more humble tasks of staying late to clean up the barracks and grilling hot dogs so that everyone was properly fed. He truly dedicates himself to our students and to the domestic church here at Christ the King as he also serves in our Family of Faith community as a catechist."
"His effort, talent, and enthusiasm provided two amazing experiences for the middle school kids. The shared experience and community building provided by the field trips have carried forward long after returning home. These experiences were also a community building opportunity for the parent volunteers that further strengthens the school and parish."
Mr. Vandehey initiated the opportunity and created last year’s (2023) middle school outdoor school experience from scratch. He also worked to put together an incredible coast field trip this year for all 50 middle school students. He has contributed to our school community and student experience in immeasurable ways and we are truly grateful.
