Hello! I teach English to all middle school students and World History to sixth and seventh graders. This is my fifth year teaching at Christ the King, and my twenty-ninth year as a teacher.
I grew up in Oregon, and am the mother of kids ranging in age from 14 to 33, the grandma of a baby girl due in late October, and the wife of a husband who doesn't complain about books spilling off every shelf in the house. I am also the owner of a small dog named Bean Chambers.
YEARS COMPLETED AT CTK: 4
YEARS IN EDUCATION: 29
TRAINING: BA, Journalism, University of Oregon; MAT, Elementary/Early Childhood Education. Pacific University; PK- 9 Self Contained Endorsement; 6-12 English Endorsement; 6-8 Social Studies Endorsement. Attended ICLE National Conference in 2023, and currently enrolled in the Catholic Educator Formation and Credential Program.
FAVORITE SAINT: That is like asking me to choose a favorite book. It's just impossible. They are just always in my thoughts. For example, I keep a picture of St. Maximilian Kolbe's messy desk taped to the front of my messy desk, a quote from St. Augustine is over my classroom door, and my living room has a big print of St. Clare scaring off invaders with the Eucharist in a monstrance. The variety of holy people in the communion of saints might be one of my favorite parts of being Catholic, and I love sharing that with my students.
MORE ABOUT ME: I read 103 books last year - I plan to assemble the world's best pub trivia team someday, made up of my former students - After a lifetime of disliking classical music, I recently discovered that I really like opera - I love the movies - Over the past three years, my family has roadtripped the Atlantic coastline from Portland, Maine to St. Augustine, Florida, as well as the upper Midwest - After starting to teach together, Mr. Lippi and I realized that he was one of the readers at the Easter Vigil when my family came into the church.
WHY I CHOOSE TO TEACH AT CTK: With the support of an incredible parish, our school boldly lives the faith together every single day. We teachers protect childhood, and strive to give our students experiences that help them develop their humanity. In a frantic world that is obsessed with technology, we're relaxed because we know who we are and what really matters in life. It's very counter-cultural in the best possible way, and I can’t wait to see our students’ impact on the world.
