In First Grade religion, the students focus on the love of God, bible stories, liturgical seasons, and how to be a disciple of Jesus.
The main goals in Language Arts are improving reading comprehension and fluency, and developing writing skills by moving from simple sentences to paragraphs with a cohesive flow. Students will learn proper sentence structure and punctuation through journaling, creative writing and research-based assignments.
First Grade math continues with addition and subtraction, emphasizing speed and accuracy. The students also begin to explore units of measurement, telling time, counting money, and geometric shapes.
In Social Studies, students will learn about world cultures, diversity, U.S. presidents, US history, and more. First Grade science covers plant and animal structures and survival, properties of light and sound, and outer space.
